Pirot Kilims at Townhouse 27

A Serbian story, woven by hand

05 September — 01 December 2026

This autumn, Townhouse 27 invites guests to discover the Pirot kilim — one of Serbia’s most distinctive craft traditions, shaped over more than 300 years.

Presented throughout the hotel in collaboration with Kilim Arts & Crafts, the exhibition brings together handwoven kilims, traditional motifs and the stories behind them.

At the heart of this tradition are the women of Damsko Srce in Pirot, today the last workshop producing authentic, certified Pirot kilims. Woven entirely by hand on a vertical loom, each kilim carries traditional motifs with meanings ranging from harmony and protection to wisdom, travel and the wish for a safe return home.

Pirot kilim-making is included in Serbia’s National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage, recognising not only the kilims themselves, but the living knowledge passed from one generation of women to the next.

At Townhouse 27, the story unfolds throughout the hotel — from the loom at Reception to kilims and their motifs discovered floor by floor.

Guests may purchase the exhibited kilims through Townhouse 27 or explore further pieces in the Kilim Arts & Crafts Collection — kilim.rs/en/. Selected available kilims can be brought to the hotel within 24 hours for a private viewing. Our Reception will be happy to arrange everything.
